This book is slow but does a good job of being in the head of the main character to really feel the dread and loss of control that he feels.

Besutifully written introspective follow up to Annihilation. Living in Control's mind is claustrophobic in the best way and his limited view provides an intriguing narration of an even more intriguing world.

not as good as the first one but still good af

Somehow this managed to creep me out as much as the first one, despite (or maybe because?) Control not being inside of Area X. It's just - this huge almost cosmic threat lurking in the back of the story, something you wish so desperately to understand and control, despite knowing that it's an impossible task. Also, government incompetency my beloved. Everyone has more than one motivation for everything all the time, and everyone (even the guy who is supposed to be the director!) is essentially facing a threat while blind, not given enough information. Also, the ending????????? I couldn't put it down and I'm so looking forward to the third one

a brilliant sequel that maintains the theme of the first book while building on the world and digging into the ways bureaucracy and government fail to provide solutions to climate change. gets really abstract towards the end in a way i really enjoyed. if i had to have a complaint, id say i dont buy (or dont understand) the relationship between control and ghost bird, why hes so drawn to her or why i should care if she has nothing to gain from him.
