I enjoyed Vandermeer’s writing style and am a big fan of Annihilation; unfortunately, this book needed an editor. The prose was, at times, self indulgent, and it was hard to follow what was going on. It’s hard to say whether or not the intent of the book was to make you as discombobulated at the characters, but I don’t think it works if you also want there to be a clear narrative.
