Did I read this solely because I loved the animated 90s movie with Dimitri? Yes. 100%. But this book is going so slow and I was thinking it would start with her as a teen not as a child- which is FINE but I’m bored and am moving on. DNF
I'm not sure I have the words to fully describe how I feel because this book just blew them all out of the water! This book was incredible! It was like a movie playing in my head that I didn't want to end. To put it simply, I loved it with every fiber of my being. It brought me complete joy every second I was reading! I am so excited for the audiobook because I think it's going to play out like im listening to a movie! This honestly could have been longer, and I still would have wanted more! Phenomenal writing and a story that I will hold dear to my heart forever!
Ok - I have thoughts. This was a book I was really excited about, because I saw the idea get formed on TikTok. Did it follow those expectations? Not really. You can tell Sophie really enjoyed researching this, and wanted to include as much detail, but I think the book suffered from about 200 pages (minimum) of unnecessary story that just dragged the plot. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the last 50% of this!!
Just waaaayyy too long and shockingly less spice than a normal Sophie book

3.5 stars. This book has the potential to be a fave… but the pacing was absolutely abysmal. I’m more of a plot driven reader than character driven, so it was frustrating to see the inciting incident occur 65% of the way through the book.
I know the first half built up a lot of character relationships, but we were also introduced to so many characters that I couldn’t bring myself to care about each and every one of them.
The ending did pick up a lot, between the romance and the time traveling action. But ultimately, I was just glad to be finished with the book so I could move on to my next read.

Anastasia was a book i got for my birthday. This book gave me emotions that I never thought would happen. I'm glad she got her happy ending and married who she wanted. I definitely was happy when Rasputin died because that meant everything was going to change. If you definitely need to cry I would totally recommend this book
I just really took issue with the way the Bolsheviks and socialists were portrayed. I know this book is supposed to be about magic, romance, and the struggle of an aristocrat to be a good person and acknowledge their privilege. But it really feels like the author didn’t think through the political ramifications of keeping the aristocracy in Russia. She kind of makes the claim that an enlightened despot is better than any form of socialism or communism.
I thought the first half was excellent. The second half was silly and too perfect. The princess gets to learn from suffering, but doesn’t have to live with any of the physical trauma or loss.

WAY too long. Like I think 300 pages could have been taken out. I did enjoy the romance. Although, this was pitched to me as being based off of the cartoon (which is one of my favorites) and it wasn’t like it at all.
