This. Book. It has absolutely everything I could ever want in a book. It’s based on historical events and has some semblance of accuracy; it introduces mythological monsters and magic; it has an intricate romantic plot line that isn’t the entire focus of the book but it’s so CAPTIVATING. The battle between good and evil, the complexity of each and every character, the CONFLICTS of Anastasia. I am so amazed by this book 1 obviously I knew Damien and Anastasia were endgame but what I didn’t expect was for him to actually die the first time around. This book captivated me the entire time.

I’ll be honest I had 3 hours left and I simply didn’t care enough to continue reading it. It stopped catching my attention, could be a reading slump, or It simply wasn’t catching my attention. I’m saying I read it thought because I went through all that so I’m counting it

This book was a bit slow to get going but then it hits with the fantasy take on historic figures and I really didn’t see the twist at the end coming.
I love the authors take on the characters we know and the original characters. It is perfect for every woman who grew up watching the best non Disney princess animated movie of the 90’s.
The art is such a beautiful bonus too (more young adult / new adult books should have illustrations)
Anyway if you love historic fiction and romantasy you’ll love this.

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME

I really wanted to like this book, but unfortunately fell into yet another 'booktok' trap. It took me 600 pages to realize that the littler italicized words in between paragraphs were SONGS to go along with the scene. Meaning that this book has a full on playlist. A fantasy book? with a playlist? I am sorry, I can deal with those for romcoms when they are at the beginning of the book but not when the author chooses a song for every scene like COME ON. Also, the art?? randomly placed in chapters?? This book was just too...social media for me. I am however giving it two stars because I did like the story plot. I liked how it quintessentially followed The Romanov's life. I liked the characters I liked Anastasia. I really appreciated the plot twist towards the end as it pulled the story away from the real history of the family and added in that extra fantasy component. I would not recommend this book, but am glad I finally got it out of my tbr.

Such an underrated book. I came in not knowing anything and by the end I was so enthralled!

Anastasia is the retelling I’ve been waiting for! A slow-building  but wild ride full of love and heartbreak. I’ve laughed and cried, chewed my nails to the quick and wanted nothing more than to keep reading. I absolutely adored the animated movie as a kid and while this was nothing like that, it was still riveting and enchanting, full of ups and downs and waiting on the edge of your seat for what you know will eventually happen. The big twist threw me for a spin, I hadn’t even begun to imagine that’s what would happen even as I kept asking myself how this could possibly have a happy ending the whole time leading up to it.

If you're not well-versed in Romanov history, I doubt you'll enjoy this book. When I first heard about this, I imagined a smutty retelling of the animated movie however, I would say this is inaccurately marketed as a fantasy romance as the romance was a sub-plot at best. This was definitely more historical fiction based.
