it was such an interesting concept. i loved since the romanov family in a fantasy world, where everything was possible. i loved following anastasia and see her grow up. this is such a unique retelling, one that is for sure worth exploring (especially after reading the author’s note at the end). this book made me feel so many emotions and it was a whole experience by itself.

however, this book could’ve been shorten by 200 pages easily. i understand where the author was coming from but it was still a little too long for my taste.

trope: enemies to lovers

dnf’d at 200 pages… i did not pick up this 1000 page book to read about inaccurate russian history :/

I liked the book! Loved how the main story spanned over years and years. I think Sophie Lark did a wonderful job crafting it together to make sense. Damien was a great love interest. All of the powers were cool! Didn’t love the time travel reset though at first.  Vampires were a cool twist. I liked the childhood sweetheart trope.

Really a 2.5 but Goodreads doesn’t offer half stars.

I really wanted to enjoy this one, and I guess I did in parts. This was SO LONG I nearly DNF’d at multiple points just because it felt like the book would never end. I think cuts could’ve been made to the first half that would’ve helped this a lot.

The dialogue was also kind of hokey at points, especially at the end. Real eye-roll stuff. But I get it. This is a book inspired by history and a Don Bluth movie.

The ending came out of nowhere as far as pacing goes, though. Everything was moving so slow until the time jump, and then it was a game of “How Fast Can We Get to the Epilogue?”

All in all, it’s fine. Would I have started this if I’d known it’d take me over a month to read? Probably not.
