i don't really have any words for this book other than perfection. beautifully written, amazing characters with great development, an exciting romance, generally just everything you want in a book.
i was kinda hesitant about starting anastasia because it's pretty long but boy was i wrong, it didn't feel like 800 pages (on kindle), there were no boring chapters... none

Slow pace, lots of background story. It’s a romance, but the first 100 pages the MC is a young child. The next part she is older, but still a child. There wasn’t much plot going on either.

I would have loved this even more if it had been more of a fantasy setting/characters inspired by Russian history rather than a fantasy twist grounded in history, but the childhood enemies to sun/moon romance had my feet kicking.

Sorry, unpopular opinion ahead. (Keep in mind, I only give 1-star ratings when books disappoint me!)
I might delete this later, but I feel like ranting due to the historical inaccuracy in this book. I couldn't get into this one, because I think the author omitted factual aspects of the Romanov family that came across as disingenuous.
Spoiler "They loved the parties and the balls; they hated having to attend church every week and being told if their gowns were too low cut"
. In real life, the Romanovs are considered passion bearers by the Orthodox Church. Of course there's magic in this one, but she seems to go to great lengths to distance herself from that. Anastasia's mother was devout in her beliefs and was passionate about charity. I think I'm merely disssapointed, because the hype for this book got me so excited. Maybe this was just a fun project for the author, but she should have just separated it from Anastasia entirely if she didn't like who the Romanovs were in real life. I prefer recommending [b:The Ice Swan|55918636|The Ice Swan|J'nell Ciesielski|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1619568385l/55918636._SY75_.jpg|87129868] instead.
