What I am about to write is going to sound wrong, but when the Heroine, Annique Villers aka the spy name Fox Cub, was blind, she was way more independent and less dependent on the Hero: Grey. And when she hit the tree branch and regained her sight after five months blind due, so something was pinching the optic nerve, she became super dependent on Grey/Robert.
Spoiler:
Most cringeworthy moment but you don't realize it till a few pages later: The spies talking about Grey deflowering Annique in front of her Grandfather/Galba, but the readers or the characters do not know that Galba is her Grandfather. That was awkward.
Overall, it wasn't a bad romance, I felt it was disjointed.

The relationship is morally dubious, and it’s super dated but man this was fun and fast.
I do think it would have been better if she had stayed blind the whole time.

The prose was often beautiful and the plot and action were ok. But this story had no heart.
I really didn't care that much for any character. This seemed to only be a "romance" for the sake of sex. I do like spiciness. But reading about unemotional sex is not my idea of a great romance.

I didn't hate this book, but it wasn't the love of my life like I had hoped from some of the reviews. I'm frustrated with Grey whose kinda an ass, with Annique started out strong and...went down hill from there.
Okay, ignore the cliched cover and dive in to one of the most well written romances series ever. Spies, Napoleanic France, evil villains, and spicy scenes done right. ❤️
Lots of twists in this story of a French spy and an English spymaster. I found the French female spy to be very endearing.
This book is rather outside my usual reading lists, although I do like a good historical fiction from time to time. It was a combination of a comment from a friend and a hilarious takedown of the ridiculous cover that made me throw caution to the winds and take a chance on the book. Overall, I liked it all right, although I was from time to time very annoyed with each of the main characters for acting foolishly or inexcusably. The best parts of the plot were the history and the intrigue; it's worth reading for that.
