I find it a bit hard to review this book, as I liked the story and the atmosphere, the lyricism and beauty of the language used, yet the pacing made it feel like a bit of a grind. Overall I enjoyed it, but some of the choices made during the story felt a bit confusing to me. Yet the whole trying to figure out where you belong, what your identity and history means to you, stunning.

And we have another 5 star read.

I'm always discussing Diversity and good representation on my blog.. How I believe it's an effective way to merge it into a story ... and not just becoming a box checker monster without rhyme or reason.

This book handles that perfectly, it involves you into a story about discovering your roots, your culture and where you come from.. without losing touch of the person you are today.

It's all intertwined with a fun and adventurous journey.. you go for a ride along with Miguel and his friends.

The writing style is beautiful, descriptive and captivating... I love how rich the characters were, so fleshed out and the world is entrapping... you want to be there exploring and finding things about yourself right along with them.. Mexico has a very rich history and mythology and I was happy to see it portrayed here just as it should be..
If you are looking for a good, fun, engrossing coming of age story with more meaning than you can grasp on a first read.. pick this book up.
