Sense of place is a bit muddled, but this addictive YA thriller had some surprisingly thorough research skills, as well as excellent suspense and likeable main characters.

This was a great YA mystery. I liked the structure of it - the capstone project gave it a neat format and way of exploring Pippa's thoughts more closely. I don't know that I'll continue the series but I can now watch the show without any stress or spoilers!

I went into this book excited to find what everyone loved about it but I did not find a book I enjoyed. The writing was bland but easy to read. The mystery was well structured and fun to follow along but ultimately predictable and the characters were just okay but lacked any real depth or interesting traits. My main issue lies in the odd tone and character choices. The main character discovers all of her information by just asking people and they spill their secrets to her and as the story went along it became more and more absurd. It made the story feel almost comedic and just a story you didn't really need to think about which was fine until we started to learn more of what happened five years ago. Without spoilers it's heavy and I don't think the story handled thoses topics with the care they deserved. It resulted in the end leaving a bitter taste in my mouth, feeling like something got lost in the messaging.

Pippa Fitz-Amobi chose a closed case 5 years ago to be the topic of her final-year project. With the help of the alleged murderer’s brother, Ravi Singh, they uncovered the layers of the Andie Bell case. The suspect turns out to be her best friend’s father and the sister of the victim.

As someone who rarely reads mystery books, I barely put down this one. Every chapter is concise and clever. Doesn’t take a lot of analysis which is suitable for readers who want to get into thriller literature. Visual materials are presented for the readers to engage more with the book. It also shows that all the information is well-researched. One thing that I also liked from this book is the accurate representation of a 17 year old and their relationships and how they handle things. The writer allows the younger audience to widen their perspective and challenge their morals.
