Flock review. I enjoy Siobhan Davis writing and all the books I have read so far I have enjoyed them immensely, this one was no exception, although I got the audiobook this time. This is a reverse harem story with a storyline that made it perfect. The characters are amazing and the relationship and development between them was very well done. The emotional part of the story was definitely on the high roller-coaster, it was deep and definitely made me hear it in record time, I just couldn't stop. Narrators Sarah Puckett and Paul Stefano did a fantastic job portraying their characters, the editing was very well done, definitely would recommend you get the audiobook.

Wanted to love this, but I really struggled to connect with the FMC and finish the book.
Just felt like the author skimmed over all the hard, character growing moments so you don't end up really connecting. You are just present in the better parts, and the darker parts are just summarised e.g. story starts after the night when she was 15, after the dark place she then went to, after Ethan died, then when Blaire went through another dark time mid way through the book it then skips head 18 months and summarises. Even near the end of the book it skips again to 3 years later and summarises what they went through as a group

I cried all the way through this book, at times it was the serious hiccuping can't breathe type of crying as well.
This book is heart wrenching and left me feeling drained with some of the scenes. Character development was amazing and the way that Siobhan was able to weave other characters stories into the main story adding further dimension to the relationships was epic.
By the end of the book there are no loose ends.

I have a love/hate relationship with this book.
What did I love?
-I love the emotional turmoil Blaire went through. That felt realistic. The suicide portion hit me a little hard. I had to stop for a bit and come back to it. It was that powerfully written.
-I love the love she had for her brother.
-I love the mystery portion. How everyone had a tiny piece of the key, but nothing made sense until everyone's pieces came together. It gave me Mindf*ck series by St. Abby vibes.
-I love how some estranged relationships recovered.

What didn't I like?
-The conversations with the guys had a weird flow. So weird, in fact, that the boys felt flat. They were very agreeable 99.9% of the time. Heath only felt semi-dynamic when he started college after Blaire disappeared. I'm not sure how else to explain it other than the boys had zero personality, zero quirk, zero mannerisms when they were with Blaire. They went along with what she did. No thoughts or contributions of their own.
-Some things were emphasized for no reason.
---Blaire's friendship with Shaz, for one. This character is introduced and immediately taking a liking to Blaire. Only for it to go nowhere after that chapter.
---Blaire's job with Jacinta. There was an opportunity for a maternal relationship there. One where the maternal figure wasn't grieving a son, and instead, it went nowhere after that chapter.
--- Blaire's ability to fight. Like this badass character was introduced and went nowhere.
--- Blaire's dad's drinking problem. Alcoholics don't just recover on their own. Just halfway through the book, poof, the alcoholic wasn't an issue anymore.

Heartwrenching and Amazing Story!

This was my first read by Davis and I don't think I could have picked a better one to start first! Davis truly does explore topics that aren't always written about, but she does it so well. If you don't have any triggers, I say you need to read this book! Given that bit of warning, I will also add that there are no graphic scenes of what might be triggering, but it may still effect some readers regardless.

I had a feeling where this book was going in regards to Ethan and what went down at school (trying to avoid spoilers!) pretty quickly. However, I NEVER expected the book to cover everything it did, and definitely not WHY he did it. This book was emotional and it was very hard for me not to cry at times!

Blaire was an amazing female lead in this book! She was trying so hard to be strong for so long! And just because she had her weakness and set backs, while also trying to be strong, doesn't take away from her character at all! It shows the struggles of someone in her situation. Not everyone handles trauma the same, and I know people, women, who have reacted similarly as Blaire did from almost the same situation she went through.

I read another reviewers comment on how Blaire having multiple boyfriends wasn't realistic. Well I disagree. Yeah most women probably couldn't handle it, if they had been in the same situation. But sometimes it takes more than one type of person to help you heal. Blaire really need all the help she could get, and these guys were exactly what she needed! Perhaps the intense connection is a bit far fetched, but honestly is it that big of a deal? No it's not. I liked that they had that connection and that they guys where there for her no matter what.

Everything about this book felt thoughtful and well respected to me. The author clearly wanted to express some hard hitting topics, and I truly believe she did a beautiful job of doing so. Once I started this book I knew I had found something special. One of the topics really hit home for me, and I actually thought that all was lost just before 'part 2' started. I had to take a moment before continuing the book and that doesn't happen often to me. I could truly feel Blaire's pain and numbness, and that's saying something for the author to be able to portray it so well. As the book went on and the rest of the story unfolded, I really felt for the characters effected by everything that happened. And I'm glad Blaire was so forgiving in the end. I don't know if I could have been personally, but after everything, I think that's what she needed most.

Surviving Amber Springs settles deep in your soul, brings all your emotions to the surface, and pulls at your heartstrings.

This book touches on sensitive subjects, so please check the trigger warnings!

Blaire and her parents move away from Amber Springs after something tragic happens, and they try to pick up the pieces and move on as best they can.

"Axel is the type you want to hide in a closet and do dirty shit with."

Blaire meets three hot guys, Skeet, Axel, and Heath. They show her around her new school and protect her, and she starts to fall for them.

Throughout most of this book, I found myself in tears because so much is happening, and you are trying to understand why Ethan (Blaire's Twin brother) did what he did.

"You terrify me, Blaire, in the best possible way."

If you can get past the trigger warnings, I say this is a must-read! Beautiful story and, of course, a HEA!

There was almost too many twists and turns to uncover at the end of this book, felt unrealistic.

It was a really interesting story but the trigger warnings were a bit... too shallow? The themes in this book are very dark and need more explicit trigger warnings. TW for suicide, attempted suicide, gun violence, high school shooting, bullying, sexual assault, rape, domestic abuse, alcoholism, self-harm, emotional/psychological abuse, depression, mental illness.

The dark themes were (imo) well executed and it was interesting to read in a perspective that is not often discussed - the family of a high school shooter.

The romance was interesting, especially the aspect of Polyamory and how they actually talk about their dos and donts. BUT WHY IS THE MOST NON TOXIC GUY NAMED SKEET

I started this book being sooo excited, the synopsis gripped me completely. And although I did like the book and I did like the trope, there were a few things that brought this book down for me.

My biggest negative was that I definitely thought it could have done without the reverse harem trope. There was a clear connection between two of the characters which blatantly wasn't there with the others which I think needs to be there in a reverse harem otherwise it seems forced. Also the story was a good story, there was drama and heartache.. it really didn't need that extra reverse harem at all it ruined parts for me.

Audio Review;

I love Siobhan and this has been one of my favorites. This was my first listen but l've read the book several times over the years.

This book takes us on an emotional journey that really touches your heart. It had so many shocking moments and a great story with extraordinary characters.

The audiobook was performed by Sarah Puckett who did an excellent job with the raw emotion and all the roles. I would have liked duet since so many males I sometimes lost who was talking but otherwise solid performance.
