I'd say that this one is the 2nd best in the trilogy? idk. Overall I really enjoyed the series but the first was definitely better than the others.
I sorta have mixed feelings about the ending. Like overall I think the trilogy wrapped up well. It did what it intended. But I felt like the last portion of this book didnt hit the way it should've. Just wasnt scratching my brain the way I wanted it. I may feel a bit of disappointment. With the last two plot twists I was on the verge of rolling my eyes. Sevro secretly not being dead. eh. Maybe I just dont like the fact that that info was kept from the reader. Like the book is in first person and there was this giant plot underway that we weren't told about. That just aint right. It seems like at the end of these books every time I see that theres only 100 pages left and I'm thinking to myself how on earth this is gonna get wrapped up a deus ex machina of sorts seems to appear and bring us to our conclusion. idk
And then the Mustang baby reveal I audibly said something along the lines of "what? no!". Like sorry im #antipregnancytrope. I am so #antipregnancytrope in fact that I still hate it when its the very last line of a book and I wont actually have to deal with it (she says hopefully not knowing if that will be included in the next books)
I was informed that the last page of this book had a big plot twist that would affect the rest of the books in the saga (maybe) and I sure can tell you that I didnt want it to be that. And yes I know that its not actually pregnancy trope and its actually secret baby trope. alsoooo, 2 different Darrow baby reveals within the same trilogy. Like cmon, lets give it a rest
Also I would like to mention that I like both Darrow and Mustang and I like them together but the way that Pierce writes it feels very superficial? Idk? maybe its just not that kinda book?
I do appreciate that Pierce Brown read my last review before writing morning star and made the spaceship fighting a bit easier to read. Thanks for listening to the feedback.
The more reviews I read the more faults I find oops.
I will keep reading the other books in the series but I'll just say I'm not exactly fiending to read the next ones.

How Pierce Brown managed to make the books in this trilogy progressively get better and better I’ll never know. I loved the way the ending unfurled; the covert strategies and planning left me as confused as some of the characters. And that reveal in the epilogue.. this book made my eyes water a couple times but tears were SPILLING reading those last few pages.
Masterpiece of sci-fi. A must read series for lovers of the genre.

While I enjoyed the book, I was more than ready for the story to end. The final 1/3 of Morning Star felt as if it took forever to get through and if there was a planned fourth book in the series, I'm afraid that I probably wouldn't read it.
With that said, Pierce Brown wraps up all the major storylines nicely, even if a few of them were a bit of a stretch.
Red Rising was a 5, Golden Son was a 4, and my rating for this book says 4*, but if I could I would dial it back half a star to 3.5.
