Wow. This book has one of the most devastating character deaths I’ve ever read. As soon as it happened, I was completely sick to my stomach. The events that followed made me even more nauseous. So much so that I had to put the book down and take a break.
Pierce Brown you are luckyyyyy that this book ended the way that it did.
An absolute roller coaster of emotions from page one to the very last, what an incredible end to the first 3 books in this series.

Pierce Brown strikes again.

What an amazing book. This one was very different from the last two. Darrow was a very different person than when we left him at the end of Golden Sons when this book started and it shows. The author says this in the acknowledgements but honestly the book isn't really even about Darrow. It's about everyone around him. My favorite parts were the moments where it was "quiet" and you got to really see into the characters and how they think and feel. Like a character study almost but done in the most compelling way with characters both old and new. There are still the classic twists and turns associated with a Pierce Brown book so it definetly isn't boring. I seriously couldn't put it down. Simply amazing, I can't wait to read Iron Gold but I'm going to take some time to sit with the characters as I know them right now. Enjoy them in their peace.

I know Iron Gold goes crazy and it is definetly not peaceful so I don't want to jump into that right away haha.

A good conclusion to this first trilogy! I think it had some beats that were draggin a bit but had purpose and payoff in the end. Only things I’m kinda weird on were Sevro and Victra’s wedding, and the big reveal at the end. Luckily there’s a next book to build on that. The ending fighting was a huge payoff and written in a way where the action and tension was tangible. Good stuff. Honestly nearly all the close combat sequences were fantastic. Characters are highly interesting, weirdly my favorite endin up to be Cassius… huh? Also I thought the ship battles were a little disappointing. I wished they were a little more captivating. Anyway, already have the 4th book on deck. Can’t wait to see what limb Darrow or any other character loses this time!
