A lovely, twisty send-up to the gothic and to folkloric monsters upon monsters, and a welcome return to form for the series.

This one was interesting. It was a little more horror and eerie I quite liked it. I think it’ll take a second read to get the characteristic series 5 stars

Nghi Vo has once again written an amazing short story, and I  loved every second of it, although at some point it turned more into a very dark maybe a little more horror-like story, that I absolutely did not expect and thought was quite creepy, but somehow Nghi Vo managed to not let it go to far and in the end it was back to what the story started out with. I'd say it's the darkest of the Singing Hills Cycle books so far, and because that was so unexpected I wasn't sure at  first if I actually liked it, but in the end I did.
Chih was once again a great character and I love reading their story and about how they collect other's stories so much, and the setting was once again written so well. I really enjoy these books and how Nghi Vo manages to capture so much in very few pages. I'd also say this was one of the better books. Like, I loved all of them, and all of them so far got 5 stars from me, because they are all great, but the first one was my favorite, and I think this one is once again going a little more into the direction of what the first one was. At least from what I'm thinking right now, I might also be wrong, I should probably reread the whole series.
But great story even if I remember wrong, because Nghi Vo is still a fantactic writer, and I loved it, even with the unexpected dark turn. Great book.
