A REALLY good book if you have the stomach for it, but also just incredible fucked up. The story changes perspective every other chapter, and I gotta say I wasn't super invested in the first half. Gillian's got a great hand for pacing and dramatic twists, and you spend the whole book not knowing what's coming next or who to sympathize with (the answer is no one, they're all pretty deplorable).

This book is vicious. I adore how you never truly like or trust Nick and Amy. You always feel that there is something we as an audience dont know. I mean I can't help but root for Amy as a girls girl but both Nick and Amy are hardcore narcissistic sociopaths. They both truly believe that they're in the right and the other deserves death or jail time. Its amazing how Flynn makes both Dunnes people you hope make it out and people you hope go to prison. I just wish it was formatted a little more comprehensively.

Wayyy better than I anticipated. After being traumatized by the film, I was skeptical of this book and read it just so I could get rid of it but it was so good. The book does a way better job of separating true and false, and the narrations were great.

I will be thinking about this book for a while. I saw the movie in theaters and remember all the feelings I had then. I feel the movie is very accurate to the book. The whole time I was thinking “I wish I could read this blindly” because I know these plot twists would be so good. I love the unreliable narrators. I love super flawed characters. I love the satire and critique for men/women dynamics, true crime in media, and so much more. There is so much to analyze I wish I was reading this with somebody to talk it out. Amazing book, can’t wait to read more from the author.

It is a good book in the sense that it made me reflect about the main characters, especially Amy Dunne. It's not an easy read per se since it took me a while to get used to the layout per chapter, alternating between Nick's and Amy's POVs - which got exhausting for a while because I like to read about Amy's chapters better. Nick's more detailed and more on flashbacks and dramas while Amy's are getting progression each time she gets a chapter.

While Nick's such a jerk for cheating on his wife - on his student! how disgusting! - Amy's revenge is more fucked up. To think that she was pretending to be this cool girl for Nick all along for many years, and eventually got bored of the pretense and resented Nick for not taking a hint and wanting to get back on Nick for that matter.. that's just sooo manipulative and cunning, borderline psychopath (ironic na Psych grad iyang fam). Her finding out his husband cheating only fueled to her hatred and she devised a revenge to frame her husband for a nonexistent homicide.

Her revenge on her HS friend is brutal as heck, poor Hilary is victimized even though it's not her fault Amy decided to cut her off by blaming Hilary that she fell off the stairs (caused by Amy herself, to play victim). She even used her ex (forgot the name) in her desperation after her revenge escapade got ruined, eventually she killed him. A murderer.

Amy's a sociopath. Her seemingly perfect image is maintained using her devious, pavictim card. Her revenge is just petty, esp to Hilary, playing god and it's not even justified.

Overall, this book is really nice. It delved into a female character with questionable and borderline psyxhopathic/sociopathic behavior perfectly that I don't want to take anyone's sides.
