This book made me laugh and cry more than I expected it would. The characters are lovable and very real. The relationships they have with each other feel equally as real. The book starts off as a hilarious slice-of-life and very quickly becomes an emotional romantic rollercoaster with a healthy side of red-string-on-a-corkboard politics. Both moods of the story are fantastic. The only thing I didn’t love about this book was how long the chapters were; rarely was I able to read an entire chapter in one sitting. But the story flows well enough that it doesn’t really matter. I honestly just had a really great time reading this book. I went in with no expectations and before I was finished I knew it was getting five stars. Even just for Alex’s incredibly judgy metaphors about European politics and Henry’s equally creative clapbacks about American government in the first few chapters.

bighearted and bombastic, truly a joy from start to finish! With a cast of characters that are so believably naïve, sincere, deeply flawed, relentlessly misunderstood and so so easy to root for. The prose are stunning, the humor is razor-sharp and never once felt like it was punching down.

McQuiston invites us into the turbulent world of Henry and Alex, who quite possibly two of the best rom-com leads in recent memory, sharing an unbelievable chemistry that just leapt off of the page and into my heart, never to be forgotten. What else is there to except, this was just great, and I can't recommend it enough...

This could be a good book, for me it lacks a lot of elements I enjoy about this genre and the use of real world countries and political system while changing some parts of it but not others for seemingly no reason made less sense the more it went on. The character development was mediocre and the tropes felt tired and stretch. There's some great moments but overall this just wasn't as good as the hype around it had built it up to be for me. It felt like every time there was development it would regress again in writing quality and character development.

swoon!! this book gave me butterflies and had me giggling left and right. so many loveable characters, and great 2019 dialogue. the modern dialogue didn’t feel forced, it was exactly how my friends and i talk making it easy to read. a world i wish we lived in (no pandemic, female president, prominent political gays in us and uk). i think this is my cap for romance novels, the plot was interesting enough to hook me, if it’s any more sappy and less plot driven than this i don’t think I’d enjoy it. I did find myself struggling to finish the last 100 or so pages because it was so predictable, but when i sat down to finish it, it was easy and still fun to read.
