4.5

So I gave this book 4.5 stars.

The reason is the ending. The ending to me fell off and it sucked. I did like their love story and they were compatible to me. It was believable and cute. The fact that they had tension this long from when they were kids is so funny to me.

The side character mostly the sisters and the best friends I loved. They helped move this story along to me. I did like his dad honestly. Now their moms were a different story. Miss President I actually didn't like her until the end especially her dismissing her daughter's career. That to me was a low blow honestly.
The queen and future king sucked and his mom set by for years doing nothing was even worse. She basically left her kids to fend for themselves. The son was hiding who he was and the daughter ended up on drugs. They were kids.

Overall I would recommend but I will say it will be a hit or miss. The chapters were very long and most of them in my opinion could have been split. To me it made the book drag a little.

Not a fan of the lack of tex mex representation and didn’t like that it was written by someone who isn’t of Hispanic decent but the rest I love, it’s cute and sad and a mini mention of sexual assault on pages 377-380

After the last book I low key hated I kinda needed something to fix my reading mood so I grabbed this (lol reading this while the coronation of a new british king was happening was lowkey funny). It's lighthearted fun. I don't feel i will be obsessed with it like the others. Will not think it to be top 10 best lgbt books or anything. The comparisons to Young Royals now feel a bit insulting to young royals since I feel like they've been handling the topic better. Like it's clearly a book that's written in reaction to 2016 election. If it was straight I would call it trashy romance book but of course because it's gay that's a level that elevates it.  I enjoyed it a lot but just don't consider it some great quality of writing.
In any case it did it's job. It did what it was supposed to do

I liked this book a lot more the first three times, and it’s lost its charm some.
I like when books have multiple plots, and this book is one of my favorite examples of that.

hi. i just reread this book for the billionth time. popping in to say how much this book has given me. the advice in these pages is astounding. all of the love, grief, fear, humor, and overwhelming hope in these words is jaw dropping. casey mcquinston has a way of making the most outlandish scenarios seem entirely realistic and possible, and they also have a way of making the mundane spectacular. i know this review isn’t the most specific, but i believe that books are to make you feel, not to necessarily make sure you can recall every detail (I mean, I can with this book, but still).

thank you casey, for making sure this book is there. for this bisexual, half-mexican girl to pick up and fall in love with.
