And the Oscar for best supporting character goes to: SIRS!

This was a tuff book to read. I caught myself procrastinating to prolong or prevent reading. I didn't want it to end, but I didn't want to read it either. Well of course I wanted to read the book, but it was rather bleak.
One of my all time favorite books is The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Klune has stated that it was one of his inspirations behind this series. I can see that. So if you like The Road I'm pretty sure you'll like these two books.
But but but this is definitely one of my favorite series, and I'm so sad that it has been discontinued. I really, really would have liked to know who it was, that wasn't what he seemed.
Damn how I love The Dark Klune (yes I capitalized that!

An incredible sequel, more action packed and steamy than the first. Gritty, and it made me tear up at the end. Although I know the series is technically unfinished and won't be picked up again, I still feel like the end was satisfying as it was.

“If you can’t be pleased by the little things on the days before your death, then what was the purpose of living?”

Kaboom! Pinecones! Awesome! And epic!
I mean it’s not everyday an author can make you cry over a Robot’s “death”.
Absolutely loved it. Even, probably, more than the first book. Probably.
So much pain in these Immemorial Years, we were Withered and Sere, we were Crisped and Sere, but we lived too. Not happily ever after, but we lived & breathed & loved...
💜💜💜
I’m sorry there won’t be more. I could totally use more of this world in my life, as apocalyptic as it was. 😭

Crisped + Sere picks up where [bc:Withered + Sere|28507063|Withered + Sere (Immemorial Year, #1)|T.J. Klune|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1454727591s/28507063.jpg|48661291] leaves off.

Talk about a tough emotional read that had me lost in deep thoughts a few times. The blurb pretty much tells you what the story is about so my review will focus mainly on my feelings and insight experienced while reading.
On the surface this world is bleak, it's a wasteland. It's harsh and unforgiving. It takes resilience to survive the world TJ built. When you dig a bit deeper though, pass the grim reality presented you'll find those feelings that compel us to keep living no matter the cost. In this world almost everyone operates primarily on their baser instinct, to protect what's theirs, to amass power or be annihilated regardless if they are threatened or not. Thankfully, there are those that still have a solid core of human decency. We see glimpses of caring for the survival of others despite how dire the circumstance. This is demonstrated through the actions of one tough old lady, two men who've suffered tremendously a dog and a robot.

Cavalo is crazy, Cavalo, is dangerous but deep down despite the world of agony and hurt that haunts his thoughts Cavalo still operates as a empathetic human being. He cares. He foolishly trusts people to do the right thing. He does what he can within his means to ensure everyone has a fair shot of living life no matter how miserable the setting or how unlikely the success.
When you look closely you see the beauty in the breakdown.

There are some parts that are so disturbing you can't help but shed a tear. This is a great post apocalyptic read. As devastating and disturbing as it is, I can't get enough of these characters. If you haven't already, die this series a try. I will warn you though, this is a far departure from Klune's previous books.

Simply loved it. It picked up right where the first one ended and I couldn't get enough of the story. Really sad that the series has been discontinued since I'd have loved to see what else T.J. had planned for the whole family.

This book is beautiful in such a twisted way and it speaks to the darkest parts of my soul.

"So yes. Here. Now. Cavalo laughed.
The beed didn't understand. They tried to find more rubber bands to break, but there were none left.
He laughed."

We all have our bees, and my bees loved this books very much.
