dark funny informative relaxing sad fast-paced

This one was good but not quite as good as the one I read before it. I did love getting to see more of Tess and Clary's mother. I did love getting to see more of Valetine's Circle in action -- both those who knew what they were doing and delighted in it, and those were disgusted with realizing just exactly what they'd fallen in to.

I like the idea Tess was the one to decide about Clary, but I also feel like that is major revisionist history at work, when it was never part of the original Magnus telling. And I'm also a little sad it didn't go any further past the point it ended at a little too safely.

This story was completely different from the previous one but still connected to the main story. And it featured Tessa too!
I had to adjust to the time change since this goes back to the years of The circle. We get to see how those years of terror were for the downworlders and how Magnus met the circle. Also how brave Magnus was.
It was terrible seeing the shadow hunters of the institute dying or that poor werewolf girl going blind. Valentine is awful.
There were so many things tied to the main story too. Like...Magnus referring to Maryse and Robert's child as a brat and saying he didn't care about it (that child will later on be his husband ;) or Tessa saying the Herondale line was gone when we know Jace exists. And of course Clary and Jocelyn appeared in the end. Also, we all knew that Valentine would betray Lucian and Lucian would betray Valentine.
A great story but I already miss Malec

The title of this story didn't really give away what it was going to be about, which I thought was interesting. We learn about how Magnus first encountered the Circle, and thus get more insight into other minor characters like Maryse, Robert, Luke and Jocelyn, as well as the Herondale bloodline and tie-ins from The Infernal Devices.

i couldnt care less about valentine, i don’t think i can stress that enough

This was a fantastic read. I got to see Tessa in this book and it was really cool. When Jacelyn showed up with little Clary at Magnus house and Tessa was there and now we know the meaning of Clary's surname. JEM is in this one too! Overall, a perfect read.

TESSAAAAAAAA

Better than most of them, and I liked that we got to see the Circle pre-Uprising.

A standout in the series! This story explores the impact of Valentine's actions on the Shadowhunters and reveals the events leading to Jocelyn's arrival at Magnus' doorstep. A must-read for fans!
