This was the latest book in my quest to re-read all of the Rick Riordan books, since I loved them so much as a kid, and I had forgotten how good this one was. This book introduces Frank and Hazel (two amazing characters) and takes us back to what Percy has been doing after an entire book that not only does not really involve him, but in which he is also missing without a trace. It also furthers the quest to stop Gaea and finally gives the seven demigods a concrete end goal that will help them accomplish this. The plot and characters are wonderful and well thought out, and the book is full of adventure and humor. (I only docked half a star just because I don't think any book in this series is capable of living up to the originals.) I loved reading this book, and I have already started reading the next one in the series. I would recommend this book (and this entire series, for that matter) to anyone looking for a good quest story or a book with great characters.

This is a children's book, so it doesn't have anything too strong in it, but since it is sort of a fantasy-adventure story where the characters fight lots of monsters, there is a lot of violence and war in it but it is not graphic at all. Also, the death of one character's mother is a major part of his backstory, so this is also mentioned at certain points. The book also touches on some of the racism that one character, a Black girl, deals with in her life.

this book is my least favorite in the series but i still really liked it!! i didn’t find the characters and the dynamics as fun as they are in the other books but i was very glad to have my boy Percy back.

And we're back on track! It such a relief to be reunited with Percy. Frank and Hazel are adorable and interesting characters. Somewhat predictable plot, but who cares! Rejoice demigods, for Percy Jackson is back!
