It was good but it didn’t blow me away. The twist was good and something I wouldn’t have guessed on my own. I enjoyed reading this book, but I would still say it was just “ok.”

I don’t have the words for how bad this book was. Not only was there racism, but there was also a lot of transphobia. It also was insanely political which like I understand to an extent books will always have a layer of politics (I mean look at the hunger games), but this wasn’t even remotely related to the plot nor incorporated. It would blatantly just go from kid being possessed to a weird battle between being religious vs being not religious. And uh spoiler alert, it’s VERY clear which side the author is on. The amount of hate and stereotypes the parents fell into as the typical “woke liberal” parent who are borderline abusing this kid is insane. It just was honestly laughable how painful this read was. Like I don’t care where you stand politically, but cmon now, really???
All that aside (which is impossible to ignore), the writing was messy. The plot was poorly done. It was a waste of a great concept. The characters were insufferable. Nothing made sense. The big “twist” was just confusing. Then there was random romance involved and then the dad wanting to screw the babysitter??? Bro I don’t even know lmao. It was just bad.
Don’t waste your time on this book.

The twist in the last 10% of the book was crazy. But also didn’t align with the parent’s and their child’s behavior throughout the other 90% of the book. So even if you go back and reread it, there’s not enough moments of ohhhhh this character was acting like that because of ____. You know?
