I picked this one up on a whim even though my library described it as a mystery book. It kept my attention and wasn’t as romantic as Sparks other books. There’s a couple story lines going at one time, but it’s fairly easy to keep up with. I will say that I was slightly disappointed in the epilogue, but Sparks has to keep the reputation going! Haha overall a good read!

I’m giving this a 2 ⭐️
Honestly this my not have been my type of book. I also would not compare this to Dear John at all; only similarity is Trevor is ex military.
I didn’t care at all for Trevor our main character and there’s things in his life that I relate to but still felt like he was very arrogant at times.
I didn’t appreciate the first few interactions he had with Natalie.
I felt very underwhelmed by the romance. About 70% through the plot completely changes focus to what was a side story with Callie, was now the main focus for the last part of the entire book. This kind of felt like the romance should’ve been subplot the entire time & Trevor digging deeper into his grandpa’s death.
But I cared more about this last portion than the entire first half.
Felt scattered.
I liked knowing about the bees 🐝
Also about Trevor’s grandpa.
I’m not the biggest fan of the author but this was a book club pick and thought why not give him a chance? I just don’t think it’s for me.

My love for Nicholas Sparks started when I was young or to say when I started reading novels. I use to hear people saying it was too predictable, too cliché, and all sorts of things but I enjoyed reading his books like “Message in the Bottle”, “A Walk to Remember” etc. When I saw this book online, I was excited and ordered it immediately without even reading the premise.
It’s about an army doctor Trevor, who suffered multiple injuries in Afghanistan and returns to his grandfather’s house after his death.  In this small town, he meets his girl who is a police officer, and also he tries to learn about his grandfather’s last days.
We learn the story through Trevor’s points of view and sometimes the backstories he is telling are unnecessary and not engaging. The big bumper I felt is how soon they both fell in love. Come on man! It’s Nicholas Sparks we need to feel more love.
Overall I didn’t feel the need to DNF it(may because I loved his other books) and I wouldn’t say this is his best work. If you are going to start with Nicholas Sparks maybe don’t choose this as your first Book.

Honestly, I was a bit disappointed by this one. I feel like I would have enjoyed it more had the romance been taken out and we just focused on the mysteries surrounding Callie and Trevor's grandfather. The romance between Trevor and Natalie felt a little bit problematic and didn't make me enjoy them and their place in the story.

Omg the Insta love between these grown people is ridiculous. They hung out like 3 times and are in love. When she was keeping a whole big secret. Also this is a SLIGHT SPOILER but I don’t think 14 months is that long? Like girl. Other then that it was enjoyable. I do wish there was like more flashbacks of the grandfather and more of Callie.
