It's the first time I've read William Shakespeare work and although it's dark and sinister it hasn't put me off trying some more of his work

This was gripping. I made the mistake of reading it when I was pretty tired, so it took me a little extra to parse the language. LOL

A graphic novel of a play, with the original text, is halfway to a performance of it. This particular production is not great. The graphical interpretation is stereotyped and on-the-nose.

Both the Macbeths have black hair. Lady Macbeth, with her lowered eyebrows and two dangling, snakelike tendrils of hair, looks evil from her first appearance. (Also, she can’t mention her breasts without grabbing them.)

The Weird Sisters look straight out of a Tales from the Crypt comic book.

I have to believe there’s a better graphic novel adaptation out there.

The Scottish play is my favourite, both favourite Shakespeare and favourite play. I mean, it has murder, daggers, ghosts, Scotland, and witchcraft - what else can you possibly wish for??

And thus I am incredibly saddened by the comic version. I am a fan of comic books, however the classic comic style in my opinion best works in black and white or in superhero stories - or maybe that’s just my annoyed opinion as none of the characters resembled the way I’ve pictured them in my head for over ten years. Why is Macbeth so buff when all the others are like sticks??? Why do Lenox and Seyton look like brothers? Why in the name of Hecate are lady Macduff and lady Macbeth’s maid dressed in the same goddamn outfit????? Why is Fleance’s hair like that????!

I get the idea of having comic versions of classics but they’re not my cup of tea.

Great classic with great artwork

Great story obviously but great artwork! The truncated story was well done and great quality in ebook conversion of a graphic novel.

The graphic novel makes it more accessible, you can see what’s going on in addition to reading the dialogue.

You can see my whole review at Carol's Notebook.

I think this might be saving my grade in my English class. I'm very visual, and when reading Shakespeare I tend to picture the actors on a stage with no props and no emotion, blabbing in a foreign language. This book saved my life.

What I did was listened to Macbeth on Spotify, by Barbara Gefford and Michael Redgrave, following along in this book. This book is the original text, straight from the play from start to finish. It's not an adaptation -- this is Shakespeare. I've read some reviews on Amazon that say this book added dragons and some kind of futuristic sci-fi edge, which is NOT the case. This is shockingly true to the play, long soliloquies and all. And I think that's wonderful.

Beautiful artwork as well. Overall I loved this.
