I am so hooked on this story. This is how you do action and politics. This is such a well played book... I'm destroyed every time one of my characters...well. let's just say I'm invested in them all.  I'm looking forward to November.

Better than the first book, but still kind of silly. It would benefit from better writing and editing.  Will probably read the third when it comes out regardless

This is the second book in the Divide science fiction series(*). As before, this is military science fiction with misfit soldiers and astronomical shenanigans. Also as before, the point of view alternates between Adequin Rake, commander, and Cavalon Mercer, now settled into his role as astromech-engineer expected to provide solutions in the tradition of Scotty from Star Trek. And, also as before, I found it very entertaining.

There isn't a new idea to match the sheer coolness of the Divide (the edge of the universe, introduced in book one). But there are still plenty of cool ideas, high stakes, action, humor, and very likable characters. I anticipated a couple of the turns in the plot, but it didn't detract from the fun.

Four out of five sentinel stars.

(*) Currently only two books long, but at least one more book is in the works.

About my reviews: I try to review every book I read, including those that I don't end up enjoying. The reviews are not scholarly, but just indicate my reaction as a reader, reading being my addiction. I am miserly with 5-star reviews; 4 stars means I liked a book very much; 3 stars means I liked it; 2 stars means I didn't like it (though often the 2-star books are very popular with other readers and/or are by authors whose other work I've loved).
