The passion that Emily Bronte was able to write is insane. Heathcliff is so detestable but I want to give him a hug. I can see why it's a classic romance and it gave us some iconic lines.

Because it is 19th century literature (and my first time reading from that century) it was a little difficult to get through. It was also often difficult to tell whose POV we were reading at some points.

I know it's fairly normal for this time but why is there so much incest?!?!

I started reading this book thinking it would be this strong romance between these two forbidden lovers, but is was anything but that, I found it a very intense dark book but that is exactly what made it good.
Heathcliff was this very violent, angry and hurt character I feel like the way he was treated as a child really ruined him, even when he was with Cathtrine he would hurt her.
the characters troughout the book you really get to know them and their personality traits, there a  some characters I really hoped that they would make it trough. this books touches on subjects such as child abuse, death and trauma. even though it was a quite a heavy book is was brilliantly written, I am definitely going to reread it and recommend it to other people because it leaves you thinking on certain subjects.

  • Abhorred this book on my reread.
  • There's not one redeemable character in this entire book.
  • The "passion" I used to find endearing, is frustrating to me now.
  • The incestuous nature of Victorian literature still grosses me out. He's your cousin. Barf.

This was my favorite book for a while in high school, and years later, it's still my favorite classic. It's so melodramatic (I've been jokingly calling it an original soap opera), with a lot of great quotes and open-ended angst. I also feel like it brings up issues of race, gender, childhood, literacy, and property ownership with surprising insight for its time period (though those moments can be jarring on their own).
