This book is utterly devastating, haunting, and all-consuming in its depiction of obsessive love. I’ve never read anything quite like it.

Classic romance can get no better than this. Well if you like tragically flawed characters whose only redeeming quality is their love that seem to even surpass their deaths. *Sighs* Perhaps Catherine and Heathcliff found love beyond mortal life.

A gut-wrenching story about love, obsession and abuse and how they bother alter our life and our own person. The only thing I didn’t find enjoyable was how incomprehensible Joseph was.

I first read this book in my younger years and I remember being mortified. Reading it now, those feelings linger, but it’s mingled with a sort of retrospective idea. I wish Emily published more books as this is timeless and beautiful as much as it is haunting and, at times, challenging. I want to both hug Heathcliff as well as kill him. Each character has duality in their nature but none as much as he.
