Thanks to netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. I would call this a domestic type of thriller and for me it hit all the marks of what I want out of a thriller read.
I want a captivating storyline, dark atmospheric feelings and for it to haunt me once I have finished it. In this book we have Eden a very recent empty nester whose husband has also just asked her for a divorce. Eden is still cradling her broken heart on her forty-fifth birthday with only a now empty bottle of champagne and her Facebook account to keep her company. When her best friend sends her a happy birthday message accompanied by a picture of themselves as college students, Eden starts reminiscing about her college crush, Justin Ward. Twenty-three years ago, she was in love with the bad boy drummer, but in one fateful night everything changed and resulted in Eden walking down the aisle with Dave instead. Before she can stop herself, Eden sends him a friend request and is shocked when he accepts it straight away. The next morning, rather than regret what she’s done, Eden feels reawakened by the attention that Justin has paid her. Not wanting to back away from this new feeling, she throws herself headlong into an online relationship and takes risks that would have made her cringe just days earlier. But as the weeks pass, something starts to feel off. Justin seems to know things that he shouldn’t. Could he have been following her? But if so, why? This was one of those mesmerising reads where you just keep telling yourself you will just read "one more chapter" because it is just too fast paced to put down and I found myself swept up in the momentum of it all and trying to uncover just what Justin's intentions were and whether or not Eden was safe in this new relationship of hers. I loved the darkly disturbing characters and the unexpected twists as the story unfolded, it definitely kept me holding on until the very last word. It will leave you questioning any friend requests you receive from people from your past and definitely make you think twice before requesting any people from your own pasts that you find on  social media. #afriendinthedark #samanthambailey #thomasandmercer #goodreads #getlitsy #thestorygraph #fable #netgalley #domesticthriller #bookqueen #bookstagram #tea_sipping_bookworm

Eden Miller's husband left her after they dropped their daughter off at college, and she's reeling from the loss of identity as a mother and wife. When a crush from college accepts a friend request, they start flirting online, and their relationship quickly escalates. After not talking for decades, Justin seems to know a lot about her and her family, and Eden starts to question his intentions. As she tries to unravel whether she trusts him or not, more secrets from the last night she saw Justin in college arise.

This was a totally steamy, suspenseful thriller that packs a ton of twists at the end! Go into this one as blindly as possible to enjoy it the most!

This is mainly a mental note for myself, but wow. This is top 5 worst books I have ever read.
I know the author was trying to express the woes of getting older and feeling undesirable, but Eden is a petulant idiot.

Too Chaotic and Completely Unrealistic

This book was all over the place. The first part was good, but with the introduction of the second character in the second part, it started to get weird and jumped too much from one place to another. The ending was chaotic and to me, the characters were completely acting out of character (Ava?!) from how they were in the beginning. Also, Olivia telling her husband about Justin just a couple days after she started talking to him?? INSANE.

This book was a prime first reads book and the summary sounded interesting. I dont typically dont read thrilkers without a predominant romance theme.

However this one sounded interesting and does have a secondary marriage in trouble theme A woman who is in the process of a divorce, that was a shock to her makes a drunken decision to facebook friend a old crush from College.

Her husband had asked her for a divorce as they were dropping off their daughter to live on a college campus. 8 weeks later on her birthday shr was by herself, hadnt heard from her soon to be ex and afyer seeing a picture with an ex crush that she almost hooked up with in college, she decided to send the friend request. To her surprise, he messages her back right away and they fall into a casual relationship that deepens with talking on the phone and phone sex.

Soon strange things start to happen, her husband is spending more time together with her as they are called on for an emergency with their daughter. The fmc is enamored with her new love ( who tells her he's married but they will separate soon). Sooner or later she feels that not only her but her family's lives are put in danger by this man she doesn't really know in person anymore.

I'd day that there was enough Suspense to keep me interested in reading the whole book and the twists were although sometimes predictable, exciting.

My main question I was left with though wasn't about what happened in the past and what was currently happening but why the hisband asked for a divorce. Was their marriage stale? Did he cheat? Did the fmc do something to trigger the sudden asking for a divorce? I feel like that question was unresolved. Although every other question I had was answered .
