A beautifully written recounting of the often difficult love between a mother and daughter on different sides of a culture wall. So honest and bare, the author’s ability to recall even the smallest moments of pain or confusion were satisfying and inspiring for anyone who has had to walk through grief and loss before. This was a very unique and beautiful experience.

Deeply reflective and wholeheartedly authentic, Michelle Zauner’s writing whisks you away to her own memories with perfect descriptions. Crying in H Mart was on my “to read” list for a long time and it was worth saving. Her rawness and attention to detail make you want to cry, smile, and find the nearest banchan to enjoy.

Well-written reflection of grief and the complicated scales of maternal relationships. While reading, I felt myself pulling threads of my own maternal relationship to consider alongside Zauner.

Content warning: this is an in depth book covering someone's cancer journey, and the effects on a family.

Really beautiful. The relationship between Michelle and her mother feels very similar to mine and my mom so reading this felt really tender during some bits. Really enjoyed this life story!

This was an incredible memoir. The writing is just absolutely beautiful. The constant descriptions of food felt so real and passionate, but the descriptions of grief were also so incredibly real, and heartbreaking. I did sometimes get a bit lost in the writing, but I did think this was an incredible read.
