Strangely entertaining, reader helps for audible edition.

Niche target audience I guess for Ms Buroker.

Later books maybe more lewd, bit of restraint shown by the lead character, though carnal engagements never far from her thoughts. :-)

Ah, meant to mention how ininical, inimical can get, when overused!

prequel trilogy to my fave [a:Lindsay Buroker|4512224|Lindsay Buroker|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1292869920p2/4512224.jpg] series Emperor's Edge.

i liked it. not as much as Emperor's Edge but they were fun as well.

WAR! KIDNAP! PIRATES! TREASURE! FORBIDDEN LOVE! MAGIC! UBERSMART PEOPLE! MONSTERS!

so basically an adventure tale with some scifi or fantasy mixed in. the reviews (the good ones not those folks with no taste who gave it bad reviews.) are correct. even the ones that compare it to awesome tv shows or other terrific books. they are all correct.

buy the ebooks. read the ebooks. fall in love with the ebooks.

Not as good as Encrypted, but this book was still really good. It makes for a good set up to
SpoilerForged in Blood.

What can I say?

Tikaya and Rias finally get to her island only to find her family and the rest of her people are less than thrilled to find the scourge of their people amongst them.

As Rias tries to build a submarine for them to explore ancient civilisations they find sabotage and hostility at every turn from Tikaya's family and the government. Added to which Tikaya's ex-fiancée is telling his usual half-truths to anyone who will listen.

I read these slightly out of order because I read the entire Emperor's Edge series before the Encrypted series but it didn't spoil it for me.

I just can't believe it took me so long to get around to reading them!

I didn't think that anyone could take Sicarius' place in my heart by Rias is giving him a run for his money.

Oh goodness, this stressed me out. So much hostility towards Rias from Tikaya's family -- some for good reason (he was a military mastermind responsible for a lot of deaths, after all) but some was just flat out racism and xenophobia. Lots more feats of engineering and decryption puzzles, adventures, explosions, and a few smooches. Lovely end to this little series.

Loved it.
Tikaya and Rias don't let you down, even when Tikaya is questioning Rias, it's wonderful to see that she chooses to trust him and save her doubts for when they can talk them over, and even more wonderful to see Rias always stays true to her and trusts her to be smart enough to figure everything out and solve the problems.

This is a thoroughly enjoyable sequel to Encrypted. It doesn't quite have the scale of the first book, but the characters and relationships are strong, and it's a satisfying romance. I really love the two main characters and their romance built on intellectual respect and scientific curiosity.
