The translation was super awkward at times. Or maybe the writing's just awkward and the translation was accurate. Either way, it definitely detracted from the fast paced and clever plot

I'm not sure if the translator is to blame, but the style was very dry. The plot was predictable. While reading, I kept having this feeling that I've seen this in a movie before. Didn't connect with the characters on any level. The main character's obsession with the "game" was strange.

Đây cũng là một cuốn sách không quá hấp dẫn mình của Keigo. Thích chị Đỗ Phan Thu Hà dịch lắm nma có vẻ chị không hợp với dịch truyện của Keigo nên đọc nó không ra được cái "chất" riêng của bác ấy.
Câu chuyện được xây dựng sao cho có vẻ vô cùng kịch tính và cao trào nhưng khi mình đọc thì lại chẳng cảm thấy gì và hoàn toàn cũng ko thấy hứng thú trước cái kế hoạch bắt cóc kia luôn (cái này personal opinion thoi). Nhưng mà cũng phải nói là kế hoạch vô cùng tỉ mỉ, đầu tư chi tiết và phải công nhận là anh nam9 thông minh, giỏi thật. Cái chi tiết trò chơi mặt nạ (mình quên mất tên r) chắc là cái chi tiết mình thấy đáng giá nhất trong truyện và nó thật sự là thú vị luôn.
Tiếp theo để nói về nhân vật thì rất tiếc là trong quyển này không có một nhân vật nào làm mình thích cả. Anh nam9 theo mình là quá hiếu thắng, tự tin vào kế hoạch bản thân (có chút tự kiêu vì anh ta ý thức được rằng bản thân giỏi) đến mức quên đi cái chi tiết quan trọng nhất, cũng là điều khiến anh sau này phải trả cái giá rất lơn. Còn chị nữ9 thì thật sự không đọng lại cái gì trong đầu luôn :))) chắc là cũng theo hình mẫu những người phụ nữ khác trong truyện của Keigo, xinh đẹp và xảo quyệt. Ngoài ra thì còn nhân vật ông chủ tịch (phó chủ tịch?) luôn xuất hiện như một trùm cuối, và dường như nắm được hết mọi diễn biến thì cũng chẳng có gì lắm, nói thẳng ra là ông ấy làm mình thất vọng vì tưởng trùm cuối thật =))))
Đây là cuốn thứ 2 hay 3 gì đấy mình đọc của Keigo và nó đã khiến mình hơi thất vọng một chút nma việc bác Keigo đổi gió chuyển qua thể loại có nhiều hành động và gay cấn hơn thì cũng là một điều đáng để đọc thử đúng không nào?

As far as Higashino goes, this is a light novel. Everything else I've read of his has a real depth to it. Character depth. Story depth. Not to say this is any less enjoyable. It is, in essence, a novella. And in thinking of it that way it clarifies the actual read.
It is also as clever as all of his novels, in that you can see what is going on, or at least think you do, and then your expectations are thrown sideways.

“There is no greater bore than perfection.” --The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell

This may not be my most favorite book from Keigo Higashino, but it definitely is still gripping and surprising as ever. The excitement may take a while but once you get over the 40% marker everything will just zoom by. I also love the plot twist here!!!

Keigo Higashino is definitely my favorite author this year and I only have two translated works left to read from him! What I love about his works is that each one gives you a different flavor but you'll definitely taste the familiarity present in it as well. I love the fact that he experiments with the structure of his plots in every book and its straightforward prose remains magnetic.

The Name of the Game is Kidnapping might not be my most favorite from him because I have no emotional attachment to the characters as opposed to his other works (in which I cried or really cared for the cast). However, the fact remains that this one is still an enjoyable and quick read to satisfy the readers' cravings for murder mystery.
