It's the second time that I listened to it. This is probably a book better off taken in via reading to absorb the historical names and locations better. I only JUST figured out Rebecca's actua last name halfway through this time around. But I love the juxtaposition of real historical people and events with the Ring of Fire and Grantville.

A Product of Its Time
The book is chock full of shlocky “men writing women” passages. Not in a negative way per-say, but simply in a ham fisted male viewpoint way.
The unique setting and subject matter manages to hoist the story up into “interesting enough to finish” territory.

Easy fun book that I can reread every couple years when I need something less intellectually stimulating. Lot of interesting scenes and characters that stick with you.

Really fun book, although things did come too easily for the Americans. Still, I enjoyed it a lot. Possibly a dream book for patriotic hillbillies, but I'm not as patriotic as all that, so only 4 stars from me. ;)
