Likes:
The helicopter scene was mint; you see many repeating scenes in other dark romance books, so this was a breath of fresh air. No pun intended. I also like how Danny is based on Simon "Ghost" Riley from Call of Duty. Does that make Paul Soap now ??? This was the first book Lexie wrote; everyone deserves to start somewhere.

Dislikes:
The timeline itself was a little skewed at first, and there was quite a bit of repetition; I mean that the FMC often repeats herself. As well as the storyline. It takes away from the story, but I could block it out the further I got into the book. If there was less repetition, the storyline could have been longer.

Overall:
Overall, I loved the story and immediately got ahold of I Promise You (book 2).

DNF at 37%
I’m sorry but I can’t. I usually even wait to DNF a book until I’m at least at 50%. But I couldn’t even do that.
I love military men. And I wanted to like this book badly, but if you ask me to describe this book in on phrase, it would be: “it needs major editing!”.
Just… this man is an asshole for no reason! Like “you are naive, and insecure, and not equipped to be in a war zone”. Dude! There’s better ways to communicate that, and they don’t involve you being an absolute asshole!
And the FMC is just… this woman needs some backbone! ASAP.
And the way this book references VD and physical assault, death, grief… I didn’t like it one bit. It was repetitive, infuriating and unnecessary.
I’m sorry, but if you are thinking about reading this book, don’t waste your time. Really!
If this book eventually is republished and re-edited (although I don’t think it was edited in the first place) you can considerate reading it. But right now, don’t waist your time.

The set up for the story, the actual plot line, the character tropes and even the chemistry/angst between the characters was good. Why the characters felt complicated feelings towards each other in the beginning made sense. But the writing, grammar and even the tenses were so eugh. There was a point when the author was referring to a patient room number and changed it from 5 to 9 halfway through the sentence?? The grammar and tenses were better with the audiobook but following along on the ebook killed me.

Basically the plot was good but the writing was awful.
Nobody mentioned there would be an accidental pregnancy trope🙄 it’s so unbelievable that a man who’s promiscuous and adamant about never having kids wouldn’t even ask his sexual partner if she’s on birth control and worse, how does a nurse not think about contraception when she’s about to have sex for the first time? She even talked about how she wasnt ovulating blah blah like what kind of nurse doesn’t know that you can get pregnant at any part of the menstrual circle?! It just pissed me off so much. Plus I hate how the mmc was acting towards the end, even when she finally told him about the pregnancy until he came around at the very end. We didn’t even see their actual relationship, granted the pregnancy happened fast but we barely saw their relationship itself. All their interactions were filled with sexual tension and then eventually they all became sexual in general without properly getting to know each other, etc.

I hate that the author used the accidental pregnancy trope because I would have actually liked the book because there would be more relationship building and I would have liked the mmc if it wasn’t for how he acted about the pregnancy. I was going to end this by saying what’s the point of rushing, she could’ve made this two books and included the pregnancy trope later on until I reached the end of the book and realised it ended on a cliffhanger. One of the reasons why I pushed through the end was because I wanted to see what happened and it was for nothing 🙄
