was in a reading slump so i wanted to read something fast-paced and this did the job! a collection of essays with varying topics. really enjoyed reading it! my fave essays were "something to do," "suffering like mel gibson," and "contempt as a virus."

Some insightful and nice moments in this book but overall felt half-baked to me. It is meant to be a glimpse, or a moment in time, but sometimes too many intimations for me.

Wish I found this right after Covid, when reality kicked back in. Due to the fact that it isn't spoken about as widely anymore (meaning on media) it doesn't seem very present to me. None the less the writing was great and it's a great motivation to read more of Zadie Smith's books. I guess it was just "right book, wrong time"
