I love this authors writing. That being said I loved almost everything about this book. I was surprised at how much I loved Tyler. I felt Tyler’s love for Memphis. I loved the humor and the hot sexy times in this book.

I didn’t feel as connected to Memphis. I didn’t feel as though he loved Tyler as much as Tyler loved him. This book read a little slow compared to the first book.

Overall still a fantastic read, and I am so excited to read about Noah! I just wish River Jaymes had a lot more books out, because I love her writing so much!

This one just didn't measure up to the first book. Sure, the sex scenes were hot, but I didn't feel it like I did with the previous book. There was just something about Alec and Dylan that was missing from Memphis and Tyler. I wasn't even someone who disliked Tyler in book 1, I just didn't connect with him here.

Love in an elevator . . . and on a boulder . . .

I don't usually care for second-chance romances, but this one was WONDERFUL. Tyler seemed so cold and closed-off in the first book that I wasn't sure I'd like the one that featured him, but it's so different once you get inside his head and realize that his iron control over his emotions is totally understandable after what he's been through. And Memphis, the daredevil stuntman that walked away without explanation ten years ago, was also a much more sympathetic character than I expected from the setup. This is a case where dual POV really, really works, so that you can fully comprehend their motivations.

And when they did get together, boy, did sparks fly! The elevator scene was SO FREAKING HOT!!! I liked that things didn't just get resolved through one conversation - it seemed more realistic to have bits of information come out over time as they each worked through their various emotions.

I am so looking forward to reading the third in the series!

This book was such a nice surprise! I read the first one and it was good I enjoyed it, it was short but sweet and when I picked this one up I wasn’t so sure I would enjoy it. Tyler was such a difficult character to relate to and connect to but what a great job in this book you can’t help but feel so much for him for the kid who was abandoned, for the young man who was left behind with no explanation, for the adult who is so much more than what we saw in book 1

For a moment there I was so worried these two would not have a HEA but so glad they did

This is an absolutely amazingly surprising sequel to the fairly average first book, the series is much elevated by Tyler and Memphis's story, it has everything you look for in a good romance. Extremely touching and moving, unlike book one, this one is so rich in emotions, much deeper and more dimensional, the writing is really good and well expressive, subtle and moving, the characterization is top notch, I love Tyler and Memphis so much they felt so real and perfectly flawed, they relationship progress is chef kiss, moving from the glimpses of the past which convey their connection very well and show why you root for a second chance so hard for them, to the present day with how much they've changed and put their past in perspective to find out what went wrong first aside from the external conflict that tore them apart, which was done so well in a realistic non dramatic way. The handling of the serious issues like sickness was done tastefully in a way that made the conflict believable and non forced.
The steam, god the steam, it's so freaking hot between those two sexy guys, their sexual dynamics were not only hot but also significant for their relationship itself, their own identities and issues, which makes it even hotter
Overall an excellent read and I'm so glad I found it

I really wanted to like this more. I get that we’re meant to feel for Memphis and his cancer (which I do don’t get me wrong) but that doesn’t excuse his behaviour. He was selfish to leave Tyler in the first place but even more so to return thinking he was dying so why the hell not completely obliterate what’s left of Tyler’s heart! Tyler started out so well and I was so proud of him for seeming to hold strong, it was sad to see him turn back into Memphis’ lapdog!

The follow up to the Backup Boyfriend was just as enjoyable. I devoured this one and it left me wanting more. When Noah's story comes along, I'm going to be snapping it up as fast as my fingers can click the preorder button.
