Edith Campbell Berry is a fascinating character. I really enjoyed this deep dive into that particular chapter of history when the League of Nations was set up, and I loved ECB. Ambitious, pragmatic, adventurous, inquisitive, flawed … she’s all this and more. I am amazed this has not yet made it to film. Moorehouse is such a keen observer of humans and humanity. Surprised to hear that this novel was not considered for the Mike’s Franklin because they considered it not to have enough Australian content. Crazy.

Gave up after 100 pages. Not convinced about his representation of the lead female character. Just didn't ring true for me

I really enjoyed this book ! The writing was excellent and the subject fascinating !! The main character, Edith, from Australia goes to Geneva to the League of Nations and goes on a great journey of discovery, politically and sexually.

Why is it that Moorhouse can write a convincing sex scene from a female point of view, yet can't write a believable American? Are Americans really that mysterious?
