I actually really did love this book. It was kind of long (and I really didn't like one of the narrators of the librivox version), but I just really connected with the story! It was amazing :)

Anne is truly the superior Brontë sister. I will be taking no questions.

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall definitely deserves to be lauded as one of the first feminist novels. Tackling subject matter such as domestic violence, alcoholism, and the impossible standards to which society holds women, this book was truly ahead of its time. It dissects

Anne's writing is incredibly direct. There is none of the poetry and romance that characterizes the work of her much more famous sisters. But because of this straightforwardness, readers are treated to a breathtakingly honest portrait of a fascinating, multifaceted individual. Our heroine Helen is simultaneously a mother taking societally taboo actions to protect herself and her son, a widow who yearns and struggles with loneliness and isolation, an artist who scorns the gossip swirling around her circumstances, and a woman who still dreams of love and companionship.

And finally, thank you Anne Brontë for giving me a quote with which to summarize my absolute love and fascination for flawed and unlikeable female characters.

" I maintain that, if she were more perfect, she would be less interesting."
