While I really loved how Bronte championed gender equality, and showed how the whole "my love can change him into the good person he is inside his abusive, bad boy exterior" is bullshit, the novel was a bit too didactic in regards to Christian piety and behavior. 3.5 stars.

Anne is as serious and religiously focused as her sister Charlotte. However, I like her characters more AND she seems to have an audacity that her sister did not possess, and that I much appreciate. (I have yet to read anything by their sister Emily so I don’t know how she compares.) While reading The Tenant or Wildfell Hall I had some delight in imaging the scandal the book stirred. I found one quote that seemed to confirm my feelings: May Sinclair, in 1913, said “the slamming of [Helen’s] bedroom door against her husband reverberated throughout Victorian England”.

Torn on this one a little bit because it's really slow and dull at times and the ending kind of makes everything work out very... conveniently? however, I think it is overall very fascinating and audacious for the time period it was written in and I mean, I like it more than Jane Eyre haha

To put it simply, really interesting within the context of when it was written, does not hold up as just an engaging story outside of that context.

I loved it. Definitely my favorite book by a Brontë thus far.
