Wow! Such a raw splitting open of the author's self. What did they hold back? Loved the candor and how this book helped me think about myself and how willing I am to be "stand in my truth" and I don't even consider myself a god. complicated family dynamics, romantic relationships, the importance of friends and found family...

I listened to the book (read beautifully by the author) and read the print book at the same time with annotations. I highly recommend the audio book.

Unlike any other memoir I've read. Some parts very relatable, some completely otherworldly. A refreshingly different look into an authors life.

Hm, hm, ristiriitaista. Mua jotenkin raivostuttaa Emezin jumalaväitteet. Huomasin pyöritteleväni silmiäni joka kerta kun jokin hyvin inhimillinen asia selitettiin sanoin ”olenhan jumala”. Kuinka paljon se, että jumaluusjuttu ärsyttää, liittyy rotuun? Jos väitteen tekisi kuka tahansa muu kuin muunsukupuolinen, afrikkalainen lahjakas taiteilija, en sietäisi sitä ollenkaan. Nyt kuitenkin yritän: miksi. Voisiko näin olla? Ei voi, mutta jos voisikin. On tämä hankaaminen jotenkin hyväkin haaste.
Kirjeet ovat kirjeitä Emezille itselleen, vastaanottajat voisivat olla keitä tahansa, eikä suhteista muodostu selkeitä kuvia. Emezi pohtiikin lähinnä omaa kokemustaan maailmasta, ja ilmeisesti on niin onnekas, ett hänen ympärillään on rakastavia ihmisiä jotka eivät vain ajattele hänen olevan ylimielinen. Jotain ihanaa siinä on, että länsimaalaista maailmankuvaa voi näin haastaa. Minulle nyt vain kuitenkin näissä kuvissa kuuluu hyvin vahvasti kehollisuus, inhimillisyys, epävarmuus ja aivan tavalliset itsemurha-ajatukset, jotka eivät ole yhtään vähemmän arvokkaita, koska eivät ole jumalallisia. Emezin tapa selviytyä ja järjestää maailmansa on kuitenkin hyvin mielenkiintoinen.
