Dead in Her Tracks is the concluding novella in the Rogue Winter duet, and see's Stevie and Zane's Christmas interrupted when two bodies are found one in the police station the other at the local motel. And with red herrings galore, mystery, and a little edge of your seat drama I was easily hooked throughout.

Would happily recommend.

Oh Man what could go wrong does go wrong.

Stevie and Zane are on the case but it's not so smooth for them and then when it all goes sideways I loved that Zane reached out to the mother. Because she just knows.

This was one of those books that the suspect kept us on our toes. But how they are all inter locking is crazy intense.

I am loving it. On to the next and again enjoying the narration.

DEAD IN HER TRACKS is the second novella set in Solitude Oregon. This story focuses on another of the Taylor sisters and her boyfriend Zane. I do have to say that the Taylor clan do lead interesting lives and the sisters tend to find strong men to compliment their strengths.

I rather enjoyed this novella as it was just long enough for me to feel that I have really gotten to know Stevie and Zane. There is some tension as there is a killer running around loose in this small town but I found the story to be more about the two main characters and how they work together. Carly and Bruce from the first book do make short appearances in DEAD IN HER TRACKS also.

As my readers know, I don't tend to read a lot of novellas as I feel they just don't have the time to fully flesh out the characters. I didn't find that to be the case in this book and while it is part of the series, I feel that it would stand nicely on its own. I do recommend this book to any of my readers who enjoy romantic suspense and are looking for a quicker read.

*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed within are my own.

Finished ~ Dead in her Tracks (Rogue Winter 02) by Kendra Elliot
Completed 10/23

I received this book from NetGalley for my honest review.

First of all, the covers for these books are AMAZING!! I love these covers, can't wait to see the others, if there's more to this series.

Secondly, this is our second trip back to the Rogue River series and the town of Solitude and their people. This is a novella series done by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot. You can see my reviews of the first four books, plus the first book of this series ~

Rogue River
On Her Father's Grave by Kendra Elliot
Gone to her Grave by Melinda Leigh
Her Grave Secrets by Kendra Elliot
Walking on her Grave by Melinda Leigh

Rogue Winter
Tracks of her Tears by Melinda Leigh

Now, as for this series, I LOVE Kendra Elliot. I've read all of her books to date and I read this series FOR the books by Kendra Elliot. I make myself read the others, by Leigh, because it's stuff going on in each book that carry over to the next. So, without reading the books by Leigh, I would only be getting half of the story.

I was excited to get to Kendra's book, which I did like better than the first, because I like the main characters in this book better. This book is about another killer roaming Solitude just days after the killer from the first book was caught. You definitely can't read this book without reading the first one first, as it starts up the action the next day.

Stevie and Zane are great characters, both cops who work together on the job. They have few suspects and are out over Christmas trying to solve their case. The only negative about this book would be the reasoning of the killer, which has been done in every whodunnit it type show and book out there. It's one of those classic "reasons" the people kill. I was hoping it'd be something good. Other than that, this was a great novella with great characters. I hope there are more, and I look forward to the next, even if it'll be with the characters I don't like as much.

Christmas morning takes a gruesome turn in Solitude, Oregon when police chief Zane Duncan receives a call. A young woman's body has been found in a motel room. This is the second body found within a week. The problem? The killer of the first young woman is already in custody.

It seems that the small town has more than one killer loose and it's only a matter of time before more bodies turn up. Will Chief Duncan find the second killer before it is too late?

I really enjoyed this novella from Kendra Elliot. This is the second novella in the Rogue Winter series. I really hope there are more to come!

This second book in the series picks up a thread from book one and continues the story arc from the crime in book one.

This time the book centers on Zane and Stevie. I really enjoy the Taylor family and this world created in Solitude OR. Because it’s a novella there’s not as much depth to the story and I missed that. I’d have liked a lot more detail on how the crimes took place, how it all started, and how it continued with no one noticing. There are still pieces of the puzzle that are missing.

I am impressed by the similarity in writing styles between Elliot and Melinda Leigh. There is such a smooth transition from book to book. I enjoy these shared series between the two authors as well as each author’s solo series.

Dead in Her Tracks is book 2 in the Rogue Winter series and follows on from Tracks of Her Tears, which should be read first.
It's Christmas, but Zane and Stevie, who first featured in the Rogue Rivers series, are called out to a motel where the body of another young woman has been found. Is the suspect for the previous murder, who is in jail, innocent or is there another killer in Solitude? Considering this is a novella, it is amazing how much is going on in this story. It captivates you from start to finish. Again, there was more suspense than romance, though Zane and Stevie's relationship is developing nicely. Kendra Elliot is a fantastic writer, and I will continue to devour anything she publishes.
Thank you to the author and the publisher for providing me with a complimentary copy via NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review.

Dead in her Tracks by Kendra Elliot is a 2015 Montlake Publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second book in the Rogue Winter novella arc. The first book is “Track of Her Tears” by Melinda Leigh and I highly recommend reading it first, if possible, since the two stories tie in together. However, this one can be read a stand alone too.

Zane and Stevie have their hands full on Christmas day when the body of a young girl is found in a seedy motel room and the prime suspect is already sitting in jail. When a shocking and unexpected hitch in the case occurs, Zane and Stevie must start all over at square one to determine who is killing young women in Solitude.

On the personal side of things Zane is finally getting Stevie to consider taking the next step in their relationship, especially now that Stevie sees her mother's predictions seem to be accurate after all.

This is another well written, fast paced thriller by Kendra Elliot, and for such a short story, this one packs a solid punch. This is certainly not your typical holiday reading, that's for sure.

But, never fear, there are a few lighter moments and some really sweet romantic gestures too, which will put all the lurid crime elements into perspective in the end.

I really love this series and hope to see a lengthier novel- or two- in the near future.

Oh, those poor law enforcement officers in Solitude, Oregon. Even on a holiday, they just don't get a break...

Dead in Her Tracks picks up right where book one, [b:Tracks of Her Tears|25707052|Tracks of Her Tears (Rogue Winter Novella Book 1)|Melinda Leigh|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1444932371s/25707052.jpg|45534946] left off. It's Christmas morning, and another dead girl's body has been found--this time in Solitude's single (and not terribly nice) motel. Though book one's murderer was caught, the timeline of the two crimes is such that it could have been the same person.

The person who is currently safe and sound in jail.

Or is he?

Zane and Stevie are suddenly faced with all kinds of questions--are the murders actually related? What about the girl being abducted on the security tape? And the ones missing from the nearby town--are they missing, or dead?

And, gosh darn it, is Stevie ever going to move in with Zane for real?

Okay, so that last question's not quite on par with the earlier ones. But it's still one that weighs on Zane's mind this holiday season. A guy can't be all about the job all the time, you know. ;)

Dead in Her Tracks does a good job of keeping you guessing. I have to admit I did have my suspicions early on about who the culprit was, though I can't exactly say why--just a feeling. Unfortunately for Stevie, she didn't share my feeling; but then we might not have had the major drama toward the end, so it's probably for the best.

Zane and Stevie's relationship takes a backseat to the mystery here, but that's as it should be, with a murderer on the loose. They still make an adorable couple, though, and there is some big relationship news by the book's end, so it's a win-win, really.

Laat year's series (Rogue River) had four books in it, so I'm hopeful that this one will too. I'm definitely not ready to say goodbye to Zane, Stevie, Seth, and Carly yet!
