The fifth book in Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. I still enjoy the unusual forms and uses of magic, and the worldbuilding continues to be interesting. The side characters are still more relatable and interesting than the main characters. And still could use massive editing. But, overall, a pretty good fantasy read.

I gave up on this book. This book was awful. I only gave it one star because there is no option for negative stars. Life is too short and there are too many great books to waste my time on a bad book. A killer chicken in disguise?? Really? I'm so sick of these characters too. First two books in the series were good. The character development stopped there. They have not grown one bit and I can't take it anymore.

Slow paced for 70% of the time, filled with stories of characters I didn't really come to care too much about. An ok read, although it seemed Terry struggled to write a huge book when it shouldn't have.

5 star - Perfect
4 star - i would recommend
3 star - good
2 star - struggled to complete
1 star - could not finish

I think this book would be better if it were about half the length. Some of the descriptions seem to go on endlessly and unnecessarily. Then there are the parts with new characters that we don't really care about that go on so long, I actually put it down and read something else and came back to it later. Maybe if it cut between the new characters and the ones we know, I wouldn't have been so bored. There were some good parts and I will probably read the next book to find out what happens next.

The person that recommended this series to me told me this book moved more slowly than the others in the series, but that the end sped up quite a bit. From what I've heard, a lot of people disliked this book because of the way that Goodkind introduced characters and followed them throughout the book--characters we had never known before and had no attachment to. I enjoyed the fact that we saw a new perspective that showed us what was going on where everyone was heading. It brought a new light into what was going on that could cause such an uproar and needed immediate action.

A good portion of the series, but it seemed a bit thrown together. I liked the concept of racism and slavery that was addressed throughout the book. While typical of sci-fi series, this particular one was well handled, of all the books I've read that deal with slavery and discrimination.

Not great. I finished this book mostly out of loyalty to the characters I had come to love in the series. There are few chapters that are captivating. The rest is forced and unengaging. Good news though- the book after in the series gets better.

This book is where I started to lose interest in the series as a kid, and it's proving to be the same 20 years later. Lord, this book was boring. I love the idea of the Dominie Dirtch but dude stop talking about it and show us more! And then the ending is kind of a cop-out. Meh.

Not exactly my favorite from the series. A lot of stupid decisions, IMO, made by various characters. But I suppose it's for the betterment of their development.
