oh my god. like seriously oh my god. one of the best short stories ive ever read. that twist at the end. i am in shock. carrie and david were so sweet and the deepness of their characters was something i didn’t expect from a story so short. i just want the best for carrie, and also fuck ken. janet less so but my god ken no. taylor jenkins reid is such an absolute read author for me now, i really really enjoyed this (and the subtle references to her extended universe!). only not 5 stars because i wish it was longer!! 4.5 stars!!

An easy, engaging read. Not very deep but an entertaining, emotional read, with a hopeful ending.

I devoured this little story in less than an hour. In so few pages TJR has managed to create vivid and complex characters, complete with relatable insecurities over things like money and infertility, as well as give an insight into the complicated nature of marriage, how things often don’t turn out exactly as desired, and how sometimes life can slip out of one’s own control. My only criticism is that I wish it was longer!

I had mixed feelings about this short book. First, I'm glad I picked it as an audio book, because I usually struggle focusing on them, but the letter format with different narrators made it very straightforward and easy to follow.

I liked the initial explorations around the concept of what those two people (who have been hurt, misled, and lied to) might be going through. I felt there was so much to explore. "What comes after heartbreak?" But instead, the narrative takes a bitter, yet predictable, turn; in which the final messaging, even if unintentional, feels all wrong.
