Short stories are not usually something I enjoy. I find the short length makes it hard for me to connect to the characters and I tend to find the plot lacking. However, TJR is a new favorite author of mine, and I had heard that this story was set in the same universe as Seven Husbands, Daisy Jones, and Malibu Rising, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Overall, I quite liked this story, but it didn't really change my mind about the lack of depth capable of being reached in a short story.

Pros:

The story was written as a series of letters. I think this made the time jumps and lack of an in depth plot tolerable. It worked well and almost felt like the letters were actually pieces of evidence that a lawyer could use in a divorce case.

Cons:

The story was extremely predictable.
It was obvious from the first letter that the two cheated on spouses would develop a romantic connection. And as soon as the fertility issues were brought into play, that couldn't possibly be "the fault" of the cheating husband Ken, it was apparent that Carrie would get pregnant and David would be the father. And of course the cheating husband was a sleaze, while the cheating wife 'had her reasons' and was ultimately forgiven

The only part of the story that wasn't predictable was left as a cliff hanger.
The only thing I really wasn't sure about was if David would leave Janet and his sons, for Carrie and Maggie, or at least if he would acknowledge Maggie and be a father to her too. And that was left up in the air at the end

I'm actually hoping these characters make another appearance in one of TJR's books, so I can find out what happens to them.
