Let me start by saying that I was actually really interested in this book, the premise sounded pretty interesting to me, and I love reading about more diverse people. I think this book had some really great moments, but they were out shined by all the problems. The biggest one being, for me, was that almost all the characters were so unlikable. The only one I truly cared about was Daniel, and when you're trying to have a cute love story, that's not a good thing. I also don't care for love stories that happen too fast, I feel that you can't truly fall in love with someone if you barely even know them.

lmao. it’s been two mins & i’ve changed my mind. it’s getting a 3. i liked the short chapters/switches in POV. and i really do understand what nicola yoon wanted this book to be. it just didnt quite get there for me. i’ve seen some 2 star reviews about clumsy handling of some of the themes, and i agree. but i also think for a YA book under 400 pages, she did well? i haven’t read everything, everything nor will i because i don’t like books centred around sickness. but i do understand why people love this book. i just didn’t. i liked it, didn’t like the ending. and fuck that lawyer. truly.

Such a cute and amazing read 🥹🥹 I almost cried, ngl. I love stories about destiny, and “coincidences”, and woven storylines. I feel like this book did that very well.

I really enjoyed this novel, I felt that the character dynamics and romantic aspect was done well but the story did not hold my attention as well as other novels like it, might just be a result of my mood though, still a lovely story.

Loved this! Loved the characters and the way the universe kept giving you side notes. Really wonderful. Looking forward to reading more by Yoon.

Nicola Yoon novels are written with short and delicate captures that keep you reading. Though it contained a variety of familiar tropes on new meetings, romance, family and personal aspirations, the less sophisticated approach made it an easy and worthwhile read. It's also refreshing in a YA novel to read the perspectives of parents too--understanding that they're also humans who believed, doubted and wronged like their children.

Main takeaway? That in life, we are bound to make right and painful decisions to attain our happy ones.

NOTE: Despite being a way-too-good-to-be-true person, Daniel is that book character you can literally ignore for being too idealistic but is blessedly charming to persuade you otherwise. A kind of humor we sort of need at least once.

not here for the science talk. just give me the ROMANCEE
I'm new to Nicola Yoon's writing style, maybe that's the reason I'm not entirely into it.
