This is the best written found/protective older brother trope I’ve read. I loved the relationship between Akira and Nori. They’re both so devoted to each other, it hurts.

Speaking of hurt — talk about hurt/comfort and hurt/no comfort. There was a good balance of both, but be prepared for a never ending pain ride of tragedy.

This book devastated me. Mostly in a good way, but the ending left too many questions in the air for my liking, hence why I couldn’t give it a full five stars. But overall, it’s extremely well-written. Highly recommend.

This was probably one of the best books I've ever read. It's a book with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. The main character Nori's experience is so well-written and detailed that I'd be surprised if the author hadn't experienced it herself. Obviously well-researched.

The book starts off slow, but it is a whirlwind of emotion once it gets started. I was a little bit reluctant to start reading, but once I got past the beginning, I couldn't stop. It's such an interesting, amazing book and Nori is a lovely main character. You can really feel what she's feeling throughout the book and you take this journey with her.

It's the kind of book that you still think about after it ends. I would recommend it to anyone interested in a book about racism and the struggles of being a black woman in Japan after World Wall II.

It is a tragically beautiful read. It’s simply pain upon pain but it’s still so hopeful despite how bleak it is. It seems so painfully unnecessary to put Nori through everything she went through. Do not read this story unless you’re ready for your heart to break multiple times.

Also trigger warnings galore. Like everything that could possibly have gone wrong went wrong. Like truly a fucking tragedy this book is.
