The descriptions of illness, death and new life were surprisingly poignant.

This book surprised me with a . I like that they explore this topic in a children's book. I definitely will miss Martha as the main character since this is the last book for "The Martha Years" and reading the accent was quite fun.

Much better then when I read it when I was small. The way she felt about things changing at the age of 10, is much the way I felt at 12. Really nice to see that in a book.

Absolutely adored this series when I was younger, though I cannot speak for how they stand up to the test of time and maturity. I do recall not liking this last book nearly as much as the others, however.

None of the other "Little House Years" books are as good as the ones about Laura but other then the Laura books the Martha ones are definitely my favorite. I love Scotland so that made this books particularly interesting to me but in general I just think they are the best written and most engaging titles from this set of books.
