A fun romp full of decent characters and cool fight sequences. A light dusting of background romance without being obnoxious. The audiobook narrator makes a couple interesting choices voicing some of the characters. The plot is fairly simple and easy to follow while painting a picture of an interesting world. Entertaining!

I went into this knowing nothing about it and was quite intimidated but I enjoyed it a lot. It was really fun and the character were great. Bit slow at points but not surprising for such a long book where you have to build the world and get everyone to the right place. Overall a lot of fun and I look forward to getting into the second one.

i liked this book overall but at times it felt too slow. even when it neared the end i thought “that’s all? why did everything takes so long” i enjoyed the funny narrative and all though

From the cover and title I expected this to be a really serious epic fantasy and so I was not expecting it to be what it actually is- light-hearted and fun but with epic khung-fu fight scenes!
Taishi was an awesome character to follow and, though he was definitely frustrating at first, I did also grow to like Jian.
One critique I would have is that I felt like there weren't really enough stakes for most of the book, meaning it did take me quite a while to finish as there wasn't a lot drawing me in at first but, once I did get into it, it was a really fun ride.
