Good book! My book club didn't like this as my selection because they thought it had too much math in it :)

I think the book had a lot of promise, but a third of the way through I just got tired of the endless and nonsensical details. I understand autism and Christopher's point of view, but it was just overkill. The details just made my head spin and made me just frustrated; I kept skipping parts and having to re-read those passages too.
I also felt disappointed about the end. The author made such a big deal of things to end the book sparsely. Quite a waste of time.
I liked the details however, comparing the fact that asperger's thinks a bit differently than normal people do.

Had some intense and raw moments but I think it would have worked better if I had read this much earlier.

I wanted to savor every moment in this profoundly beautiful story that depicts the whole breadth of humanity. In good and in bad, Christopher has to make his way through the world in these few pages. Not only is he a teenager, but he is also incredibly gifted in maths and physics. However, according to "normal" society, Christopher is deemed different and special in his needs as he does not interact with everyone like others do. Instead, he is just Christopher and that is the beauty of this novel.
I will admit that it took me a time to get into the voice of Christopher. Yet, once I had it, it was hard to not listen to and be compelled to read. I think that's the point, that not enough people have patience for people like Christopher and give up too easily in understanding him. People should never give up on one another and this novel proves exactly that as Christopher attempts to solve the mystery of the neighbor's dead dog and instead journeys into the world of "normal" society. Gods, can I just say, in a world where too many people think people like Christopher is the problem, well, they have another thing coming. Because quiet honestly Christopher was the most simplistically logical individual in the whole bunch. The rest were nuts and parading about as if Christopher was the problem instead of themselves. Perhaps, if we just took a step back sometimes and gained some perspective then we might not have as many problems setting everyone as different rather than similar.
Alrighty, off the soap box. Honestly, this was a beautiful novel and a wonderful look into the brilliant mind of someone like Christopher. I mean, most of the maths stuff went over my head, but Christopher was also able to explain things in such a way that everything sort of made sense the end. And truly, so long as everything made sense for him then he was fine. And isn't that almost most of us want anyway? Wow, I needed to read this one again.

I picked this book up because it has been on my radar for a long time, and it is listed as part of The Great American Read, so I decided now was the time to see what it was all about.
I liked it, the story was refreshing from my norm, but when I was finished it just left me kinda feeling meh.
Good story, well written, but just kinda meh in my opinion.
