A genuine improvement from volume 1! I'm pleasantly surprised. I was dreading reading this because of the awful translation of volume 1, but volume 2 improves a lot comparatively. It's still not great at times, but it was tolerable. Narration style is still too focused on telling rather than showing, but there was improvement regarding that towards the end of the book as well.
All in all, pretty fun read! The new characters and the gradual unraveling of the main characters' backstory kept me interested. Plus, season 2 of the show finished at chapter 24, so the last 3 chapters were even more exciting to read as they were completely new to me. I'm looking forward to picking up the third book!

The second arc is really interesting so far. I am really enjoying seeing a darker side to Xie Lian and learning more about his past and who he really is - even the darker parts. I feel like his character development is going to be so good throughout the rest of the series.
