challenging informative inspiring slow-paced

4.0

It has a much more novelistic tone than your normal history book, which does make it a much more enjoyable read I think. Of course he may occasionally take some poetic license in his descriptions of things, and he does wax poetic quite frequently, but I think he gets the general facts pretty straightforward. Overall, I thought it was a really informative book on a really interesting period of history. Another interesting thing about it is that he talks about how Athens and the Acropolis became more famous than the Spartans at Thermopylae, which of course is funny because the book was published the year before the movie 300 came out, which made the Spartans at Thermopylae a lot more famous than the Acropolis and the Athenians. Overall, a good read.
