Daisy’s brother-in-law has a problem and he is asking for Daisy’s help. He misstepped 6 years ago and now is receiving poison pen letters. Could Daisy come and help him figure out what is going on? She could bring Belinda and escape to the country and enjoy some time away from the town’s stifling heat. Daisy isn’t sure what she can do but she wants to help John so she goes.
While there, she finds out that John isn’t the only one receiving letters. She’s just about to solve the issue when she stumbles over a dead body. At first, she thinks it’s the local vicar but it turns out to have been his visiting scholarly brother. What is going on?
Alec and Daisy actually have a pretty significant fight but it is smoothed over when they actually talk to each other which was nice to see in a book.

Like the rest of the series, this is a fairly gentle mystery. A quick, easy read. Not one of the more exciting mysteries to solve, but it does have a few interesting twists.

Daisy and Alec's fight in this book is the silliest thing. Also it takes so long for him to really turn up.

I like seeing more of Daisy's family, though. Johnnie seems like a sweetheart, and Violet too.

Styx and Stones is the seventh book in the Daisy Dalrymple series of 1920s set cosy murder mysteries. Initially, I was a little concerned that there was not going to be any murder in this book, which seems like a strange concern to have. According to the blurb Daisy is investigating a series of poison-pen letters, but fear not there is also a murder to investigate. Because of the additional poison pen mystery, the pacing of this novel was different from the rest, and it was refreshing to have Dunn mix things up a little. As a result, I really enjoyed this on, more than some of the others, and was pleasantly surprised. I do think that it was a shame we did not get to witness an event which happened at the very end which, while a bit stereotypical of the genre, I really enjoy seeing but other than that it was a great addition to the series.

This was a fun romp in the earlier Daisy Dalrymple books. I still have one more to catch up on the series, but I think I'm Daisied-out for a while. Still, this one was a lot of fun featuring a poison pen letter writer and a man found murdered in the village churchyard. When Daisy's brother-in-law asks her to investigate the poison pen letters he has been receiving, how can she resist. She had already promised to visit him and her sister and bring along Belinda, her stepdaughter-to-be. Once again, Daisy finds a body much to Alec's (her fiance and Scotland Yard Detective Inspector) chagrin. Before you know it he takes a couple of days off and becomes part of the investigation despite himself. This is a fun series with a lot of interesting historical tidbits.
