This was a tough book to rate. The storytelling wasn't great. It's jumpy and there isn't really an overarching narrative so much as a series of incidents--some people will appreciate that, but it made this at times annoying to read.
But as a look at systemic poverty by way of werewolves, this was an amazing book.

This book is magical, but not like the Hogwarts kind. It's all about love, family and duty - and they just happen to be werewolves.

spring break 2025 book #1!
coming of age werewolf story? why the hell not! I loved the descriptive writing, but I didn't love the vignette structure of the book...it made chronology pretty confusing. also the ending seemed predictable. some of the wetewolf-isms we're not super clear, like the there can't be werewolf twins thing and how Libby and Darren never seemed to address that they were once triplets. also the whole eating vs digesting fast enough as a wolf thing wasn't consistent throughout. not my favorite read, but I was invested in my boy
